So let’s talk about Miss Keri Hilson. Now we have seen this girl everywhere. Talk about promoting an artist. She is so versatile that half the time you can’t even tell its her. She is a singer/songwriter/video girl? HunH! You can’t tell me she didn’t EAT in Usher’s “Love In This Club” video. Its hard not to think of her as the sexy girl in the videos with her hot performances in Usher’s as well as Timbaland’s “Scream” featuring Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls. She is so HOT you kinda don’t even care what she’s singing. See the video for her first single “Energy.” Hottah!!
Most people don’t know that she penned “Like a Boy” for Ciara, Omarion’s smash hit “Ice Box” and gave it to us with the title track “Black Out” & “Gimme More” on Britney Spears’ last album. The list continues with writing credits for artist such as Avant, Chris Brown, Chingy, Danity Kane, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Pussycat Dolls, Toni Braxton, Usher’s “Love In This Club” remix for which her vocals got bumped for Beyonce’s - go figure. Of course we all know she is practically responsible for most of Timbaland’s last album “Shock Value.” To be honest, one couldn’t buy an album or turn on a radio in the last five years without hearing a Keri Hilson song. I’m sorry, but that’s a true artist to me.
OK. Let’s get into it! Why is it that with all this material and all the great credits under her belt is it…….
1: taking so long for her to release an album (was scheduled for a mid 2007 release then got bumped to sometime in 2008 & is now scheduled for October 14 2008);
2: a lot of the leaked songs that have gotten out are not poppin’ compared to the hits she has written for others.
Oddly when you mention her name people don’t know who she is. Let’s support this girl! I believe she is the real deal. Besides her track with Snoop Dog “Henny & Apple Juice” is my ish.
Yall know who it is ….Fa-BiD

I was on MySpace a couple days ago when I came across this bulletin that spoke a lot to me. Lamar James- model, socialite, MySpace friend, and Brooklyn resident gave a lot of insight on some of the MAJOR issues this country is facing during this critical time. It is crucial that we make the right decision especially when we have so much on the line. Please read and pass it on… Our livelihoods depend on it…
Please do not vote for a Old Ass Country Fried Bush Supporting, Iraq Bombin, finger on the Red Button, Alzheimer’s, 5 years from an Old Folks Home, non Understanding the Youth, candidate McCain. Keep it young and fresh, away from war, keeping factory jobs in middle America home and not Abroad, win back foreign support and vote for Obama. I rock with OBAMA. Now we have to get the Southerners and the mid-Westerners to do the same. If you realize, most of those factory jobs affect you (the south and Midwest). If you drive a car or plan on using heat in your home this winter, the war in Iraq affects you because of oil prices. We are loosing our foreign allies with the Republicans in office. As an American, I’m not up for that. We run the world. Read the rest of this entry »

I promised a friend we’d go out for a late lunch and since we were in Chelsea we decided on Maroons located at 244 West 16th Street. Walking down a block full of beautifully preserved brownstones & storefront window displays, we arrived to the quaint spot and were quickly taken to our table. The decor was very minimal with the exception of the row of exquisite paintings adorning the exposed brick walls in the dining room. We browsed the menu and were excited to indulge in the Southern and Jamaican cuisine this spot boasts of. To avoid gluttony & wasted time being indecisive, we decided on a smorgasbord of appetizers including Baby Back Ribs, Garlic Shrimp, Mango Shrimp, Fried Catfish Fingers, Cod Fish Fritters, Crispy Yucca Puffs, and of course, their signature Macaroni & Three Cheeses.

So I hope that we have all been watching the Democratic National Convention because it has been nothing short of inspiration. It started off with the soon to be First Lady, Michelle Obama, giving us a little bit of how the real Barack- who wouldn’t give up until she finally said ‘yes’ to a date- will lead this country to “take back America” with the same persistence. Then Hillary Clinton tells her supporters that Obama was her pick for President. Yesterday Bill Clinton and Joe Biden sealed the deal, with Bill comparing how he was supposedly too young to lead this country, and Joe Biden who is actually good friends with John McCain proving that his friend wants to continue in the way of the Bush regime. I, KuTTy, will be bringing you my views, hard facts and ways to support this much needed change in our country.

The BK Boyeez go EVERYWHERE & we’re up for any challenge! Even if that means we gotta travel all the way to New Jersey to see Country music singer, Toby Keith. Finally! We found some people who don’t mind drinking endlessly to celebrate the conclusion of another week, the mere fact of not having to work for the next two days, and Toby Keith’s Biggest & Baddest Tour. Cheers to that!!! All Access passes, huh? [Smile] You know we went straight backstage to meet members of the starting lineup which included Carter’s Chord, Mica Roberts, Trailer Choir & Montgomery Gentry. Though most recording artists or up-and-coming stars have been rumored to be overly zealous pushovers, blinded by their own stardom, or just plain a**holes; luckily, this bunch didn’t possess those Hollywood traits. We truly experienced a fraction of their touring life thanks to the likes of Megan & Laura (two very significant individuals who work closely with Toby & his manager). They were nice enough to allow us into their personal living space (…yep, their tourbus…totally decked out with the fully stocked refrigerator and all!); their personal friendships (…yes again… we were at the exclusive concert afterparty to celebrate Becky from Carter’s Chord’s birthday). Happy Birthday Becky!!! The BK Boyeez, indeed, are everywhere! But back to the subject at hand, let’s just say that Toby Keith has earned himself a few more fans after tonight’s performance. We now have a newfound understanding for Country music, the deep meaning behind its lyrics, and a greater appreciation for Toby’s raspy yet soulful sound.

Nancy Smith of artloversnewyork.com was at an event [”Count Thy Buttons” an installation by Patrick Griffin] the BKBOYEEZ attended to support a friend of ours at a small Williamsburg, Brooklyn art gallery. Anyway, Nancy was drawn to speak with us and we ended up having a very interesting conversation. Race was brought up, gentrification was brought, touchy subjects to say the least. I mean she was kool, Fa-BiD was not entertaining it but I kind of forced him to get in on the action a little bit. We told her about our blog and a bit about our future endeavors. She summed it up on her site as “black boyz on black culture, whatevah.” She obviously heard nothing of what we said to her but we appreciate the shout and link to our blog .
Click on the quote to see it for yourself (its dope pic too) and also check out some of the satirical art work.

In4mation, a Hawaiian label that focuses on “skater wear” and street wear, has been around since the opening of their first retail store in 2002 (no doubt, in Hawaii) and in April 2007 they opened their showroom here in NYC with the goal of launching the men’s and women’s apparel range. I think they really have something here besides the write-ups in Complex, Vice and other magazines, periodicals, etc…they have a lil‘ something for everyone. Its hip and young with the potential to be a strong force in the future.Click here for fall lookbook

So yesterday- as usual- I went to Wingate Park for the last concert in the free Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Summer Concert Series (of course in none other than BK). I was really excited because I was getting a chance to see a real ICON perform, Patti LaBelle. Even as much as I despise the word, she is the epitome of “DIVA.” Howling at the top of her lungs, dancing, jumping, joking, and 64 years young. She wore a short black dress that was slightly ballooned and fitted around the her thigh. And of course, no Patti experience would be complete without her infamous shoe changes and there were a few- every time giving props to the designers which did not exclude the red bottoms (Christian Louboutin) and a classic Manolo Blahnik. She referred to herself as an “O.G.” (”original gangsta”) and being in the industry for 47 years no one will dispute that. It was a great concert and a dope way to finish off the summer series. She even sang a little of “Its Hard Out Here For A Pimp” from the movie Hustle & Flow starring Terrance Howard. I honestly almost cried (still searching for clips of the concert stay tuned).

Beres Hammond, Reggae music’s Frank Sinatra blessed Brooklyn with his presence at Wingate Park’s Free Summer Concert series and you know BKBOYEEZ was in full affect. Singing through the decades, every Caribbean person there (about 17 to 20 thousand) singing every word right along with him. It has been good going to these concerts full of people of color and there being no violence or even an outburst. It has been All Peace which made Beres even more enjoyable. Trinidad’s The Mighty Sparrow, Bunji Garland, his wife Faye Ann Lyons also performed. But it was all about Mr. Hammond. The clip below is not the best quality because you’re not allowed to bring cameras in, but you know how Brooklyn does it!

Now I have known this songstress for a while and I am glad to see her on the come-up. Having performed at most- if not all the major Reggae concerts in NYC, Kayla Bliss is well on her way to being a household name not only in the Reggae spectrum but also the pop charts with R&B songs such as this one. Google her and get in! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
