BKBOYEEZ GIVE BACK: Volunteering at the Brooklyn Public Library

Photobucket

This month the BKBOYEEZ have chosen to focus on giving back to our communities by volunteering our time toward three worthy causes. I, KuTTy, chose to volunteer at the Brooklyn Public Library Flatbush branch. Children, as we have all heard throughout time, are our tomorrow and I felt it was important for me to dedicate my time to help steer them in the right direction. Storytime with children between the ages of 2 to about 6 is more than just reading words aloud and showing them pictures. It entailed dancing, singing, encouraging, and even teaching our youth. Honestly, I was sweating during the first hour, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Kids are brutally honest so it was nice to hear them say I did a good job and ask if I was coming back next week. Stay tuned to hear what the other BKBOYEEZ have volunteered their time for and use us as an example to do the same. The best thing you can do for your community is give back!

Random Thought: Bad Business!

Don't Get GOT!

Life is rough and only gets rougher when dealing with people who are only out for themselves. Yo! I feel like I’m trippin’ off of how inconsiderate and immoral people can be. In whatever occupation you’re in, there’s some sort of “cast system”- there’s a main boss, manager, supervisors etc. and each are usually treated differently based upon where they stack up in that system. The majority of us start at the bottom and work our way up, which basically means the person that’s currently your superior was once in your position. What puzzles me is how quickly they forget where they once were before moving up in the ranks. How could one do to others the very things they would fight tooth and nail to prevent from happening to themself? My experiences have taught me to expect this, and I’ve come to the conclusion that this is the way it is! It’s a shame and it definitely chips away at my faith in man. I just hope that I will never be on the receiving end of this situation.

PEACE TRACK: “One Love”- Bob Marley

Everyone knows Bob Marley, and I’m certain everyone has heard this song at least once in their lifetime. Whether you’ve considering visiting Jamaica or are simply a fan of conscious reggae music- you can’t help but extend your arms to the sky or around the person closest to you as this track fills your spirit with love and solidarity.

Bar/Lounge/Weekend Events (in Brooklyn, of course!)

Weather forecasters have predicted rain this weekend, but what do they know? The BKBOYEEZ don’t let rain determine their weekend and neither should you! Rain or shine, there’s always happening in Brooklyn. Check these out and don’t forget to bring your umbrella- just in case.

  • Dance the night away to a mix of global music accompanied by live percussionists as well as DJs spinning the best in Afro-funk, Samba, Reggae and Soul at BEMBE in Williamsburg. Hit up this “eco-friendly” lounge on Sunday from 10p-4a & look out for the blue light because this place is in the cut!

  • You might not be Irish, but you’ll love the brunch at Boerum Hill’s own CEOL over the weekends. Not only does it include great traditional Irish dishes, but for $20 you’ll get unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. Cheers to that!

  • Enjoy shopping? Check out Brooklyn’s Indie Market!

  • Got kids, nieces or nephews you’ll be spending time with this Easter weekend? Well, there’s a bunch of FREE and EDUCATIONAL events in Prospect Park on Saturday & Sunday specifically geared toward them.

  • The UniverSoul Circus is back in Prospect Park for a limited time as well, so get your tickets now.

Enjoy Brooklyn!
