This Life: Teach the Youth

It can be pretty difficult living life without seeking advice from those who are more experienced than you are- unless you’re the stubborn type who’d much rather “learn from your mistakes”. I’ve suddenly been bombarded by the frustration & excitement of prom and graduation and have come to realize that as knowledgeable as the average 16 year old might think they are, they don’t really know anything. I mean c’mon! They have “ideas” for great things (which I love…), but they can’t stop having an attitude long enough to remember they’ve got to put in the work first. So, I command you to teach the youth. Talk to the youth. Once you get past the tough exterior they often cling to like a “NEW Boo!”, you’ll learn that they’re pretty interesting characters. Stop shaking your head! You used to be just like them, so stop frontin’! But all jokes aside, talk to them about everything and anything- from finances to fashion. Believe me… it might surprise you how much they really know, and we’re never too old to learn something new. Right? You’ll be doing something positive to impact someone’s life and that’s always a great feeling.

Random Thought: OOOOOOH SH*T!!!!!!!

Yo! Isn’t it crazy when you do something and you surprise yourself? In instances like these all you can do is beam with pride and dream about what you’re gonna do next. Every now and again, you’re able to actually see the fruits of your labor and it feels great. Go out and surprise yourself today.

Q&A with KuTTy: Is Obama’s presidential appointment a reflection of racial progress?

Yes, I would have to say in the big scheme of things- of course! We have someone who on the outside represents us in the highest position in the country, but we cannot forget his insides are very biracial. As much as Obama being elected to the presidency is a sign of progress, before being elected he was often referred to by media tycoons as half black but once elected he is more referred to as half white. As if to remind everyone as to why he might have been elected by people who wouldn’t normally vote in favor of the minority. Let us always keep it real. Obama was allowed to win by the powers that be that really run the United States of America. But we cannot miss this chance while we(people of color) are in season to seize every opportunity that Obama being president brings that we might not have had before.
