Q&A with DRE.B.EZ: Is Obama’s presidential appointment a reflection of racial progress?

Umm… Does fire burn? I know you shouldn’t answer a question with a question, but this one’s quite obvious. However, we must all remember that our president doesn’t represent one race- he’s biracial! While I’m not too fond of the term “race” as I feel it’s the key “ideal” that basically separated us a people in the first place, I strongly believe this new appointment more reflects our progress as a people. For the first time in history, we had a candidate of African-American decent running for president who could move, shake and inspire the masses without solely relying on the usual political propaganda or talking smack about his competitors. He actually knew what he was talking about. I feel it was his innate ability to relate to us on a common level that solidified his position in the White House- not the fact that he was a face the African-American community could identify with (even though that helped a little). But if we’re talking progress, we can begin by getting past this whole “race” thing and actually look at the bigger picture. He’s not just a Black figurehead in the White House- he’s our nation’s leader (regardless of his “race”) and he should be addressed accordingly.
