Umm… Does fire burn? I know you shouldn’t answer a question with a question, but this one’s quite obvious. However, we must all remember that our president doesn’t represent one race- he’s biracial! While I’m not too fond of the term “race” as I feel it’s the key “ideal” that basically separated us a people in the first place, I strongly believe this new appointment more reflects our progress as a people. For the first time in history, we had a candidate of African-American decent running for president who could move, shake and inspire the masses without solely relying on the usual political propaganda or talking smack about his competitors. He actually knew what he was talking about. I feel it was his innate ability to relate to us on a common level that solidified his position in the White House- not the fact that he was a face the African-American community could identify with (even though that helped a little). But if we’re talking progress, we can begin by getting past this whole “race” thing and actually look at the bigger picture. He’s not just a Black figurehead in the White House- he’s our nation’s leader (regardless of his “race”) and he should be addressed accordingly.

For the first time I have to say that I could not disagree with you more. I am proud of Obama’s accomplishments thus far however, his election into office does not dissipate the taint of racism. Not even a little bit. One, If you take a look at Obama’s voting history as a senator you would see that he was undecided on a lot of controversial issues; meaning if people were paying attention to other things than just his race this would have sparked some interest. Two, look at the lengths that he had to go through to get elected compared to past presidents. Bush was a C- student in both undergrad and law school with Obama was in the top seven percent of both undergrad and law school. If your statement about the advancement of blacks were true any black person could be president. And that’s just not the case. If anything his election is a testament of how blacks have to encounter insuprable obstacles before they can even enter the race. When thinking of Obama, I would simply say: He is the better man for the job…. leaving race waaaayyy out of the discussion….Ciao Bella!
