…I don’t hate the brotha, but I can honestly say I’m a bit envious of him. A “good” envious though! He’s just so suave (…that’s that Brooklyn swag- we BK Boyeez perfected), and over the years he has made a special home in the hearts of women worldwide that I’d love to fill too- that’s all! You can’t knock a brotha for that, now can you? ImJusSayin! But Ladies, do I have a surprise for you! Maxwell, (better known as, “your boyfriend/husband in your head”) has dropped his fourth studio album today entitled, BLACKsummers’night. According to a statement made on his MySpace page, this album is the first installment of a musical trilogy he plans on releasing over the next 2 years. With hit single, “Pretty Wings” dominating the airways leaving women everywhere in a frenzy, I have no doubt this particular album will be as successful as his others. Maxwell has been bringing us that effortless “grown & sexy” neo-Soul sound ever since the late ’90s, and he’s obviously continuing his career in the same fashion. I don’t blame him! If the ladies like it, I LOVE it! Definitely swing by the recordstore sometime this week and cop his album! Also, be on the lookout for the subsequent chapters of the anticipated trilogy: blackSUMMERS’night & blacksummers’NIGHT scheduled for release in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

…Well your man Jeremih’s self-titled debut album with hit baby-making single “Birthday Sex” is out and in stores today. This young R&B crooner fresh out of Chi-Town has mastered the piano, drums, saxophone and apparently “Birthday Sex” over the years. Signed to Island Def Jam Records, his single peaked at Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and after watching his first televised performance at the annual pre-show of this year’s BET Music Awards I realized the kid can actually sing. Call me a pessimist, but I question the vocal ability of any and every new artist since the industry has been stuck on that synthesized & overprocessed signature sound T-Pain can’t seem to live without. Nevertheless, Jeremih passed the “does he sound good LIVE?” test, and I don’t know about you- but I can’t get his song out of my head. We’ll see what the future holds for Jeremih, but in the meantime- go cop his album!

Love Pop?
…Well Black Eye Peas is back with their fifth studio album, The E.N.D. (”The Energy Never Dies”), and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Whenever will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, and Fergie get together, they create something innovative & uncomparable to anything else in the industry. They’ve found their niche and have definitely stuck to it over the years. Their hit single, “Boom Boom Pow” is definitely a favorite of mine; it has that heavy techno-funk beat that just gets under you. It has also been rumored that the rest of the album follows the same treatment- not the Hip Hop/R&B sounds we’re used to. Check out this LIVE video of Black Eye Peas…

It’s music release Tuesday and in a few days, Virgin Megastore in Union Square will be closing its doors forever, all CDs and DVDs are 40% off and guess what? I’m dumb BROKE! Here’s the one album I was going in there to get. It’s waaay different from the genres I normally write about, but I love the Dave Matthews Band. I haven’t heard this album yet, but I’m sure it’ll be just a great as the others. Get into them!

We’re on to another month, which means: Be on the look out for upcoming albums being released by a whole new set of artists. Here’s a few of them in no particular order, of course. Let me know if I forgot any because this list seems light in comparison to previous months.
Lil Wayne. Moby. Black Eye Peas. Mos Def. Maino. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. The Dave Matthews Band. Twista.

I wasn’t too impressed by the selection of music being released this week. No sweat for me though as that’s more money in my pocket to be spend elsewhere. But here’s a well-anticipated album that was recently released that I forgot to feature and am sure you’ll enjoy.

Love Rap?
…Well Hip-Hop’s livest duo Red & Meth have been in the studio brewing up another dose of antics for us patiently waiting fans. More mature, well-seasoned, and ready to put it down on their anticipated sophomore album together since ‘99- Blackout! 2, I pray Method Man & Redman haven’t abandoned their carefree, old school personas I’ve grown to love. But with singles like- “A Yo” and “Mrs. International” showcasing their “old school” flows on “new school” beats and new age studio sounds- it’s bound to be another classic! In my opinion, one that’s definitely 10 years overdue.

We’ve got two HEAVY HITTERS in the world of Rap bringing us new albums today. One emcee is a Brooklyn-born, Grammy-nominated, well-seasoned and well-respected artists who we’ve been following since Leaders of the New School and the other is a Grammy & Academy-award winning, lyrical emcee who blew us away with his emphatic prose on his debut, The Slim Shady LP in 1999. Word on the street is that Busta Rhymes has released his eighth studio album, Back On My B.S. and Eminem has released his sixth studio album, Relapse. We’ve been waiting for another explosive Busta album ever since he dropped The Big Bang in ‘06, and you better believe, club-hit “Arab Money” definitely intensified the urgency. Eminem, on the other hand, has been out of the limelight since 2004 so you know we’ve been feinin’ for him too (no homo!) These are two gifted emcees, and we’re not expecting anything less than the best from them both! We gotta go out and cop these, and you should too.

We’re on our final day with reggae band, U.R.I. and trust me- we’re still under the influence. We’ve searched the net far and wide listening to their music, watching their concerts and we’ve all come to the same conclusion: where’s the album? I mean c’mon… we’re ready and they definitely are too. As you can see, we support this band 100% and can’t wait for the right people to pick up on them too. Be on the look out for U.R.I.- they’ll probably be visiting a city near you as they recently played at the famed S.O.B.’s in lower Manhattan. Guess who got their hands on some footage? Be certain to check them out on our Blogroll, too (just in case you need a quick reference).
We wish all of the members of U.R.I. success in all of their efforts. Keep doing you what you & don’t change anything! Shout to: their Manager, Stephen Gold (now that’s a cool dude) and the band- Russ, Tim, Sean, DZA, Tay, Whitney and our Boyee, Don.

They say in the world of Reggae, “from it nice yuh affi pull it up twice” and that’s precisely what we’re doing with this month’s featured artist- Under the Rasta Influence(U.R.I.) We’ve got another day with this group and boy are we excited. Not only is it because we love reggae music, it’s more that we appreciate what the band is doing for the genre. Together they embody the perfect natural ingredients necessary to keep any Dutch pot delight flowing with flavor! Whether it’s the steady beat of Russ’ drum or the precision of DZA’s keys, how soothing Tay & Whitney’s background vocals echo Donovan’s sultry sound, and without the effortless strum of Tim & Sean’s guitars- the creative cypher could never be complete! Vibing to the riddims and lyrics produced by this band, you can’t help but crave a Red Stripe, a sweet ocean breeze and that special someone to rock with. U.R.I. commands attention with every tune they play in the line-up, but it’s their authenticity that solidifies their existence. You would think that mixing artists of various backgrounds would create discord, but there’s one thing they have in common that binds them together: the influence. Think about it. They couldn’t have a better name!

Time flies when you’re always on the look out for the next emerging artist- just screaming out (in whatever “artist” form) to be heard, loved and appreciated. This month the BKBOYEEZ present to you a group of young artists who we’ve been following for quite some time. Our Boyee, KuTTy- met most of the members quite aways from Brooklyn, but you know Brooklynites are everywhere …and we stick together! Even when their “new home” was only 20 minutes outside of White Plains- you can guarantee it was only a matter of time before he’d befriend a couple students who also shared the same love he did for Reggae music and Brooklyn’s culture. The birthplace was SUNY Purchase College- it was where a myriad of influences (from all walks of life) were ignited and the eclectic and innovative reggae band, Under the Rasta Influence(U.R.I.) was created. No longer were these 7 individuals confined to their parent’s “influence”- they were now on their own free to experience life, express themselves, effect others and become their own force and influence to leave their mark on the prestigous Arts institution. Over the course of three years, U.R.I. found time to juggle their general studies all while generating a large following through nationwide college tours and showcases at prominent performance venues. But, it was their original sound and feel good vibes that paved the way, thus affording them the opportunity to open for mainstream Hip-Hop artists Brand Nubian, Dead Prez, Jadakiss, Styles P, The Beatnuts, and Cassidy as well as for Reggae artists- Serani, Luciano, Glen Adams, Milton Henry, and Everton Blender. Not only were they successful in building an extensive performance resume in such a short period of time, but they also created that much needed buzz for themselves drawing the attention of Source Magazine (April ‘09) who recently profiled the band stating: “When it comes to potent live shows and smoking grooves, few bands are able to keep pace with Under the Rasta Influence.” Short, sweet and very precise- to say the least. And coming from the Source… now, that’s major! At the rate these guys are going, before you know it the whole world will be under the influence.

Love the founder of the Diplomats?
…Well Cam’Ron (affectionately known on the streets as Killa Cam) has arisen from the dead to bring us his sixth studio album, Crime Pays. We haven’t seen this dude or the bright colored ‘fits we’re used to him rockin’ in well over 2 years. Apparently, he’s been juggling the responsibilities of taking care of his ill mother (who we hope is better) all while keeping his name relevant in the streets of Harlem and the Hip-Hop world. Like a true rapper whose ego is reflected thru his rhymes- he’s allegedly still beefin’ with other emcees all while ironing out the kinks and family beefs within the Diplomats. On his first single “My Job” off this album, he rhymes about our poor economy and tries to relate to the common folk who’s just tryna deal with it and make a way! I know it affects everyone, but c’mon Cam- it can’t possibly be THAT BAD for you! Personally, I’m not a big fan of the lyricism (I know he’s capable of producing something better!) but I can say it’s definitely inspiring me to continue building my own empire and being my own businessman. As a rapper, it’s your job to inspire and with an album title like Crime Pays… I don’t know what kind of message he’s tryna send out. Think about it. We’ll let the album sales be the judge.

Love Pop?
…Well “Super C” is here to your rescue and is about to take the world by storm again! Or at least she’s gonna try to. For those of you who didn’t already know from her album cover, that’s “Super C”…Ciara’s alter ego. I guess everyone needs one nowadays to separate themselves from their artistry, or did CeCe’s super-sexy superhero just emerge to knock fists with Bey’s “Sasha Fierce”? Whatever the case may be, Ciara is back with her third studio album, Fantasy Ride, bringing us the hit singles “Never Ever” featuring Young Jeezy & “Love Sex Magic” alongside Pop’s favorite leading man- Justin Timberlake. Compared to her previous albums, her vocals have improved tremendously and it seems to me like Ciara has delved deeper into her inner sexy. I didn’t think it was possible, but if you’ve seen the “Love Sex Magic” video, you see exactly what I’m talking about. That’s not the same booty-poppin’ chick I remember from the “Goodies” video; she’s evolved to some extent- only I can’t help but compare everything I’ve been seeing from her lately to Beyonce. I know it’s a tough industry and it becomes even more difficult further down one’s career to remain relevant, but as a Ciara fan from Day 1 all I can suggest to her is: Do YOU! You’ve got your own fan base that waits patiently for you to drop your next single, album, or movie initiative. You can’t BE anyone else, but you can definitely RESEMBLE and right now, that’s the road you’re traveling. So Ciara if you’re reading: try doing the complete opposite of what Bey is doing (sounds crazy, but it’s worth a shot!), use different music directors if you have to, and conceptualize your ideas outside of the box and away from anything that can be compared to Bey. And I almost forgot, don’t share back-up dancers with your competition! Not a good look.

Love R&B?
…Well this Grammy Award-winning & soul singing R&B artist fresh off of Def Jam Records is finally back with her sophomore album, Epiphany. I’ve been feinin’ for some Chrisette Michele since I ran her 2007 debut album, I Am, into the ground. I literally had to buy another copy of it; my original got played so much it damn-near skips everytime. It’s something about that rapsy, jazzy and ever powerful vocal fusion that just gets under my skin. I love it, and I love her new do! My heart always goes out for those “deserving” artists whose albums are unfortunately pushed back several times as a result of bad timing or a lack of funds, and Chrisette Michele sure as hell feel victim. But I’ll be the judge to see if she’s truly had an epiphany. Let’s see if she can sing her way out of this one. I’m really diggin’ her single “Epiphany” co-written by Ne-Yo, but it’s not getting as much air play as I’d like. Check it out & cop the album- it’s out today!
