This week has been a rather light one here at BKBOYEEZ.com, but that doesn’t mean we’re not brewing up some future initiatives here at the headquarters either. Although we’ve been out enjoying the Summer (as we hope you’ve also been doing), we’ve made it our duty to keep you up to date with what’s going on around Brooklyn. If you’ve been reading, you’ll already know that Keyshia Cole & Lyfe Jennings made guest performances at Wingate Park earlier this week, our Boyee KuTTy has been getting reacquainted with his good ‘ole friend- ”Free” (we absolutely LOVE that guy!) all while on his quest to upgrade the fung shui in his bedroom. Be sure you keep up with him on his journey, and we urge you to continue checking out the weekend Summer events that’s happening throughout the borough as well.
We want to thank each and every one of our readers for supporting the BKBOYEEZ movement and if there’s anything you would like to see on the site or if you have any ideas you think we should try- feel free to contact us via email: b.k.boyeez@gmail.com or on hit us on Twitter @BKBOYEEZ. Thank you for riding with us!

Ok so it’s the first of July, and I can’t lie- we kept you guys in the dark for most of June. But, (yes! there is always a but) we the BKBOYEEZ are in full affect for the Summer. Brooklyn is like a mecca for Summer entertainment and of course, most of it is free to low cost. What to look for this month: a brand new logo, our launch party, spontaneous events, plus ways to make the most out of your Summer. Let’s do this Summer BK style and keep riding.

There are not many words that I would want to say about my “Dad” because I made a decision not too long ago to let all that I have against him go. Like a lot of people I know, my father was absent for most of my life and I resented him for most of my life. Then there came a time when I realized that by resenting him for so long, I was blind to the person who was always there. My mom wore both the title of Mother & Father, and she wore it well- doing what she had to do to make sure we never needed anything, along with holding her own resentment. So my Mom was my Dad, and I love and appreciate her along with the life she provided wholeheartedly.

Damn! I’m exhausted. It’s been a long work week for the BKBOYEEZ, but we can’t wait for the great weather News Channel 12 promised and the great times at the Puerto Rican Day Parade tomorrow. We kicked off the week with more ways to maintain that fresh to death swag with our GRACE HATS Spring/Summer ‘09 Series, we put you on to the new Black Eye Peas album that just dropped, and even found time to teach you a life lesson. We’ll be back in a bit, but until then- come out and enjoy the culture and eyecandy (wink!) at the parade manana.
Thank you for riding with us.

Hmm… that’s a tough one. There’s so many immigrants in this country, you would have thought we’ve already agreed to an open door policy. I love the United States just because it’s one big cultural melting pot though. I would never want to it any other way. Think about all of the things you can’t live without- the services provided to you by “the immigrant” who’s just happy to be here, seeking every moment to fit right into the American ideal of life- i.e. the close family that prepares your dreaded guilty pleasure- the tasty, yet calorie-filled Chinese food you try to avoid but always fall victim to in the late night hours, the African & Middle Eastern cab drivers who chauffeur you around the city when you’re feeling Hollywood and on the go, and even the bussers and cooks at your favorite restaurant. Let’s face it- immigrants provide all of the services your average American just won’t fathom calling “a job”. We need immigrants in the U.S., we just don’t need any coming into the country without good intentions. Nowadays that’s kind of difficult to determine, and as a result I guess I’m against an open door policy. People are going to try to do what they want anyway, so if there’s any immigrant clever enough to illegally get into the U.S., it’s cool… you can stay. We can’t do anything about it, but step our game up! Right?

I am a product of immigrant migration (along with probably half the population of these United States) and I know most of what it took for my mother to get here, so to say open door policy is a stretch. The land of opportunity, where the streets are paved with gold has to protect at least the idea of it. If the United States was made accessible to everyone, then the country would lose its prestige and exclusivity. As a place that was once built on the promise of freedom, we believe that our idealogies are automatically welcomed by the world and clearly with the events stemming from the tradegy of 9/11 there are people out there that strongly disagree. Those people should not be given access to our most treasured possesion, our freedom. If you have not guessed it by now- I say “No” to the open door policy and “Yes” to people looking for a life filled with opportunity.

Umm… Does fire burn? I know you shouldn’t answer a question with a question, but this one’s quite obvious. However, we must all remember that our president doesn’t represent one race- he’s biracial! While I’m not too fond of the term “race” as I feel it’s the key “ideal” that basically separated us a people in the first place, I strongly believe this new appointment more reflects our progress as a people. For the first time in history, we had a candidate of African-American decent running for president who could move, shake and inspire the masses without solely relying on the usual political propaganda or talking smack about his competitors. He actually knew what he was talking about. I feel it was his innate ability to relate to us on a common level that solidified his position in the White House- not the fact that he was a face the African-American community could identify with (even though that helped a little). But if we’re talking progress, we can begin by getting past this whole “race” thing and actually look at the bigger picture. He’s not just a Black figurehead in the White House- he’s our nation’s leader (regardless of his “race”) and he should be addressed accordingly.

Yes, I would have to say in the big scheme of things- of course! We have someone who on the outside represents us in the highest position in the country, but we cannot forget his insides are very biracial. As much as Obama being elected to the presidency is a sign of progress, before being elected he was often referred to by media tycoons as half black but once elected he is more referred to as half white. As if to remind everyone as to why he might have been elected by people who wouldn’t normally vote in favor of the minority. Let us always keep it real. Obama was allowed to win by the powers that be that really run the United States of America. But we cannot miss this chance while we(people of color) are in season to seize every opportunity that Obama being president brings that we might not have had before.

One-Night stands are tricky, I don’t necessarily condone or condemn them. I have definitely participated in my fair share of momentary hookups. There is always a level of excitement that comes along with a new partner and the heat of sexual exploration. These rendezvous are usually pleasurable, but often a little empty. As with most things that are fun, there can be dire consequences that come with one-night stands from physical to sexual safety. I try to keep those things in mind when I find myself in those steamy situations where I know I have nothing in common with someone other than our sexual interest. I’m sure that I will have a few more one-nighters, but look forward to them being a distant memory.

Anything that happens once should be worth your wild, right? That is what I believe society tries to make you believe forcing you to give second thought on leaving your date at the door at the end of the night. I mean sometimes it’s the Goose that got you loose but even in that loose moment, I try to think of moments after and how I would feel about myself afterwards. Please let us not forget the scenario in Ludacris’ latest video because I know we have all been there at one moment or another where you go to bed with Hyde and wake up next to Jekyll. So I think- let’s limit the one-nighters to extraordinary experiences that guarantee a smile on your face for years to come.

One-night stands are okay if you ask me- as long as ALL PARTIES (depending on how freaky you are) are fully aware of their role and how this exchange is going to play out. That in my opinion, is the only way it’ll work! I’m guilty of having a few one-night stands in the past and most of the them ended well. Some of them ended sour, and those that did were left in the “lessons learned” category- just so I know what NOT to do & what NOT to say in the future. In most cases, we both got out of each other what we wanted in the heat of the moment and then we go our separate ways. I’m totally fine with that, but as I get older- the whole idea of hittin’ the sheets with some random fling is becoming tired & not as exciting as it once was. Living in NYC where there’s just so much eye candy and temptation it’s difficult sometimes to remember your morals. All I can advise is: if this is going to be your thing, don’t do it carelessly. Protect yourself & play on playa! I ain’t mad ‘atcha.

Oh Sugar! I almost forgot. In the midst of all these BBQs, Brooklyn house parties, and mixed drinks- it just dawned on me that we didn’t put y’all on to what’s happening this week. My bad! Let’s just say you’re boy is a bit zooted, so I’ll keep it brief. Check out out this final sex-filled week in May to discover what music albums to look out for, more healthy tips to boost your sexual G.P.A., another memorable sex scandal, and our responses to another question from one of our readers. There’s probably a few extra things I can’t really remember right now, but keep it locked and let us know where the last minute BBQs are at? For real, for real.

Hell yeah! They’re learning everything else essential to a successful life there, so why not continue the tradition and teach them a lil’ something, something about the birds & the bees, too. It might seem unorthodox and taboo to talk to young children about sex and that’s the problem! Adults generally wait and wait and wait for the “perfect time” to give the dreaded talk, and often times the child has already been versed by someone else, might have already experienced a sexual encounter (not really knowing what transpired), or have exposed themselves to other outlets in regards to sex. I think Sex-Ed should start at about 7 years old or when the child enters the 1st grade. You might think that’s too young, but trust me- we live in a technologically-driven society where search options on the Internet is endless. I was doing some things at age 7 (and I only had access to the family encyclopedia), so you can only imagine what 7 year olds are experimenting with and exposed to now. Believe it or not, children are extremely intuitive and happen to know a lot more than we give them credit for. Now I’m not suggesting being overly graphic as I’m sure they’ll learn the “ins & outs” (pun intended) along the way. However, young children should be taught the significance of their “private parts” and why these areas should remain private, they should feel comfortable discussing private issues with their parents/guardians, and be taught that they’re too young to expose themselves to sexual contact.

I strongly believe that sex education should be taught in schools- especially because these days, most of the sex is happening in schools. I would even go as far as to say it should start in middle school. I’m not proud to say that I have come across way too many 12 year old mothers in my lifetime. We would be utterly crazy to deny the fact that today’s youths are having sex much sooner and more frequently then we could ever imagine. We used to cut school and go to the park or to someone’s house to play Seven Minutes in Heaven and Truth or Dare. The furthest we may have gone was daring some girl to let your boy touch it. Now kids go to school to have sex in the bathrooms, hallways and classrooms. I mean come on- we have teachers sleeping with students, so sex is definitely in the schools so why not address it. There are so many distorted views of sex in the media, our communities and especially our households. I often have the opportunity to interact with kids in the NYC public school system and the things that they openly tell me make me cringe. Many think that to teach Sex Ed in school and distribute contraceptives would be promoting sex, but I think not acknowledging and educating youths on the issue is condoning it.
